01/16/99 New Runes!: Tonight at 8:00pm EST will be the unveiling of Version 3.0 of KongQuake {modified artifact}. Be their or be a lamer!

12/01/98 Maps: Thanks to KnightMare Duck we now have a new collection of custom maps. Best to download them now. New Maps
Runes: Updated rune mod should be online within the next two weeks. Many new runes and enhancements!

10/21/98 Wan: Well the provider change has been a bumpy one. Things are starting to level out and get back to normal. We will continue to work with Icon and Isrv until connections remain at expectable levels. Your feedback stating pings before and after the change would be helpful.
BBS: Their is a WebBoard up for information exchange etc. Give it a try. TheWebBoard

09/16/98 News Flash!: This server's IP address has changed to 209.201.84.45 as a result of our new backbone providers. This service is all ATM and should rock! May take a few days for dns and routes to update so please be patient.

09/07/98 Quake: New Rune mod now on main! It has a bunch of cool new runes, hook, u-turn etc. Many thanks to the ppl at www.quake.vabch.com for being so kind as to let us use it{look here for descriptions and binds}.

The plan is to test it out for a week or so and see what items to merge into the next version. Try it out and lets hear some constructive feedback. quake@kong.net

09/01/98 Quake: QuakeWorld 2.30 has been released. Get it here QW230.EXE. This may be the last update to QW so we shall see how it stacks up against to 2.1. I noted that cl_maxfps and rate work as expected now but haven't tried pushlatency yet.

07/14/98 Quake: New QuakeWorld version 2.29 Beta released and running on all ports. Get it here QWCL.EXE {regular}, GL version GLQWCL.EXE.
System: Server was down for a day when a newly installed Ethernet card died.

06/18/98 VOTE!:
Chose your destiny, QuakeWorld 2.21 or 2.1. Send your vote to quake@kong.net
Here is the tally so far:

7

Keep new version. {2.21}

9

Go back to old version. {2.1}

2

Don't care.
More Please: Thanks to all who voted but where are the rest of you? Come on now this is a very big deal and I would hope to see 50 or more opinions before making any changes.

06/12/98 Quake: What's old is new again? I'm not sure how you feel about this new QuakeWorld{2.21} but I think its lame. Sure the bot and map hack detection is nice but the game feels like lag city to me. Really considering going back to 2.1, let me know what you think.quake@kong.net

Rules Page up. Check it out. Server Rules

05/31/98 System: New UPS in place with double the capacity of the old one. None to soon either as we are having a blast of electrical storms here.
Quake: Got the settings for QW2.21 worked out {server side}. Seems Zoid changed the default friction and neglected to inform anyone, I also set sv_maxspeed 350 to get some of the the old feel back.  As for client settings good luck as I cant find any "magic" combinations.

If you haven't upgraded QuakeWorld yet here is the link again qw221.exe.

Lots of mail recently requesting I limit pings to 200 or greater or the time they {LPBs} spend on the server. First let me say the quake provides no way refuse connections based on ping. Second I think the issue is really good sportsmanship and not low pings. I will try to address player "domination" and other conduct issues in the upcoming Rulez Page. Thanks for your input guys.

05/24/98 Quake: Well the new QuakeWorld {2.21} is running on all ports now. Not sure why they made so many changes, yes the backdoor needed fixed and checking for hacked maps and proxy bots is long over due but changing the physics may be its downfall. So far I haven't found the "good" settings yet and with a 60 ping it feels like 250! In fact playing on my LAN with a 20 ping isn't any better! Also I noted that my second 64K ISDN channel kicks in with only myself playing, this indicates some increase in bandwidth. How much? Not sure yet but if significantly more it could reduce the number of players per server and make life harder for modem players.  Also their are a few more cvars, notably cl_maxfps. This is related to "RATE" so you may want to adjust it {default is "0"}.  Too soon to tell but I wouldn't be suprised to see more versions before this is over.  Please forward any configurations that work to quake@kong.net and I'll post them here, else we may go back to 2.0.

05/23/98 Quake: QuakeWorld 2.21 is out, you will need to download it to connect to Kong.

Get it here qw221.exe.

05/20/98 Web: News page moved to main page. Looks better and maybe someone will read this stuff! <why?>
Quake: Waiting for the release of QuakeWorld2.21 before any more testing. Vis'ed maps and other "issues" to be fixed in the next version

Rune descriptions now on quake page. <tnx pho>

Mail: Kong mail server is up and running. Will be updating all addresses in the next few days but for now this one will get through joel@kong.net.

05/18/98 Quake: Kong rated #3 in PIPA'S CURRENT FAB FIVE. WooHoo!

KingKongQuake version 1.08 is on main port. Fixes include 1 frag for Impact, Fire and Orb. Vamp must earn health over 100% now.  If you see Slick[cc] make sure you thank him for all his hard work.

Testing QuakeWorld 2.2. One issue is we will have to decide if we use Vis'ed maps or not. New server checksums client maps so they must match. Either we revert to standard or all players will have to vis even those w/o GL. I'm gong to think on that one a few days and see how other servers handle it.

05/13/98 System: Kong.net was off line from about 5:30-10:00pm EST today for some remodeling of the server room. I took the opportunity to unsnarl a massive CAT-5 rats nest and tidy up things.

05/11/98 Quake: Big quake changes on Kong.

The quakeII server is no more, can't see the need for it as there are tons of others and it isn't used enough.

QuakeWorld CTF on 27550 is now an RR Clan server. Look to their page for info.

Rules Page Coming. Some time this week I will be posting the server rules for all to gaze upon. Not much new just formalized.

05/08/98 Quake: Well Slick[cc] is earning his keep. Vamp is fixed along with Weirdness. Also a cool suprise for discharging lamers. : )   New version will be up and running soon.

05/06/98 WEB: Added Q-Plug to the Home and Quake pages. Try it out.
Quake: Help Arrives! Slick[cc] has stepped in to straighten out the code. Look for some exciting new changes soon. : )

QW CTF 4.1 Server running on 27550. Don't know for how long but give it a go. You must have the 3Wave client for this one. You can D/L it from Quake Page.

04/25/98 Return of the LPB: ISDN lives!!!! After weeks of fighting my new home office router, things are finally working. And to top it off it wasn't me, seems my ISP didn't have my correct netmask. Oh well I did learn a few things in the process. This NetGear router is really sweet and at a great price to boot. Anyone thinking about ISDN service should check it out. netgear.baynetworks.com
Quake: The Phoenix fix I tested {not my fix} is a wash. You still can be stuck dead and have to reconnect. Also random respawn points lose the purpose of Phoenix.

Still have no volunteers to help with the mod. : (

New level from Thrasher called thrash2 on server. Get it here.ftp.kong.net.

04/20/98 Quake: More rune changes today. Vamp now takes as much health as the damage inflicted and max health increased to 200. I think this makes it a much more usable rune. Also fixed a bug {mine not singes} that allowed Vamp to have large amounts of health {800+}.

Decreased the death spot time out blast radius. Another fix of my changes.

Will be testing a Phoenix fix from another author.

04/14/98 System: Special thanks to Zippoman[RR] for the new and improved Kong.Net Web Image.

Recent power outages have prompted us to look for a larger UPS system. The current one is sufficient for spikes and brownouts but the storm season is nearing and could result in temporary service interruptions.

The latest Dual PentiumII motherboards are really looking good to me and I should have one in my hands soon. I don't expect to have more that one CPU in it till the next price drop but doubling the RAM to 256 meg is reasonable at current prices.

Quake: The QuakeWorld server is getting lots of use but I don't see many ppl on Q2CTF. Still in search of a good Q2 admin mod.

The dust seems to have settled from my changes to Singe's Artifact mod, man you guys are tough! Now for the next phase, anyone with Quake C knowledge please take one step forward. Really I need some help with new rune ideas I have. Only serious programmers need apply for this unpaid thankless mission.
